ABC's of Residential Construction

The extension of a good design is a good installation.
Quality control of the construction process will ensure the integrity of the design and customer specifications.
Before starting the work, we will submit a tentative work schedule indicating the expected start date and completion date.
This information is helpful for all customers - both residential and commercial - who may need to manage many trades for a large project or simply be pressed for time.
We will also provide utility locates prior to any excavation and trenching to eliminate the risk of damage to all underground services (i.e. telephone, cable, water, hydro etc.)
Our solutions to any obstacles on site are easily resolved since all our foremen are certified in installation procedures.
Our technicians understand the components of the system and know how they are installed and used.
(i.e. it is important to observe installation for depth of pipe, wire splices, compaction, swing joint/pipe positioning, plumb of sprinkler head installation, and valve box grade and gravel sump depth
- just to name a few.)
The first step in the construction process is to establish the
P.O.C.
Irrigation by Design subcontracts a licensed plumber to tie into all
potable
water sources as required by
Ontario Building & Plumbing codes.
If the household water service line is not available (i.e. customers who have a completely finished basement),
then we will use an existing exterior hose bib to tie the system in to. All P.O.C.'s require a device which prevents water from the irrigation system returning to the potable water supply.
Pressure vacuum breaker assemblies are used to protect against high health hazard back-siphon plumbing conditions in industrial plants,
cooling towers, laboratories, laundries, swimming pools and your lawn sprinkler irrigation system.
IBD residential installations are equipped with a Febco 765 PVB as standard issue.
Then we will stake all head locations, mainline and lateral line routing and make any field changes to the drawing plans as required and approved.
We use a vibratory plough (Case Maxi Sneaker) for all our polyethylene pipe installations (up to 2" PE),
minimizing the disruption of your turf. In areas which do not warrant the use of heavy equipment (like your flower garden),
all PE pipe is dug and installed by hand to ensure the correct pipe depth with the least amount of disruption.
Next, we install the pipe runs, starting with the mainline and direct-bury irrigation wire followed by the lateral lines (or zones).
Before any valves are installed, the main line is connected to the POC previously established and the main line is thoroughly flushed to clear the line of any dirt or debris
(in our trade - dirt is the enemy of all system components).
Solenoid valves and valve boxes are installed from the mainline and connections to the lateral lines are made creating the individual zones.
Before any sprinkler heads are installed, all lateral lines are flushed individually to remove any dirt (the enemy!) that may have made its way into the pipe.
At this point, all of the water application components are ready to install (sprinklers, drip-line etc.) along with the controller and
rain sensor
and all the necessary wiring connections.
All of the wiring splices in the field are made with waterproof wire connectors and your controller is wired to the valves.
Waterproof connectors are required in the field since the system only runs on 24 VAC (low voltage).
Any resistance can impact the performance of the valves causing them to function incorrectly.
The system is then tested, heads are accurately adjusted and the precipitation rate of each zone is determined to properly schedule your system's controller.
We factor in soil type, plant requirements, estimated
ET rates,
sunny or shady areas, and slope and precipitation rates when scheduling the system.
A final walk through and demonstration of the completed irrigation system is performed to ensure the system meets the standards and specifications expected by you.
