Sprinklers: Spray Heads and Rotors
While there are many different water application products, the most commonly used to spray water on your turf and shrubs are pop-up sprinklers.
They can be broken down into two categories: rotors and spray heads.
Gear driven rotors are used primarily to cover large areas of turf and can apply water over an area from 15' up to 90' in one direction with flow rates ranging from a
½ gallon per minute up to 70 GPM for golf course applications.
Spray heads are generally used to apply water in areas smaller than those of a rotor.
The pattern of the spray is determined by the nozzle installed on the spray head, and the throw radius is from 2' to 18'.
The different models of pop-up sprinklers available can include water saving features like a check valve and matched precipitation nozzles.
