What do you need to know about Landscape Lighting Lamps?

Lamps (light bulbs) get hot and burn out, usually during our off-season. You need this service to keep those lights burning bright. Why?

  • Landscape lights on average run from 6:00 pm until 12:00 am. Most lamps are rated for 2000 hours. Two thousand hours divided by six hours per night is equal to three hundred and thirty-three nights, leaving you without landscape lighting for thirty-two days, or just over one month, every year. Therefore lamps may need to be replaced every year.
  • Lighting fixtures and lamps also have a tendency to get dirty so they need to be cleaned in the early spring (before all the irrigation systems are turned on) and late fall (to ensure they run smoothly during the winter).
  • Typical lamps used in outdoor landscape lights and the newer house ‘down lights’, are called MR (mirrored reflector). A common problem with these lamps is that the mirror paint fades the more the lamps run. Therefore, to keep the effect at peak capacity and give you quality lighting, we like to keep the mirrors clean or replace the lamps even if the light still burns but does not deliver the optimum result (a badly faded mirror can reduce the output by almost 75%).

If you have any questions regarding any of our lighting services, feel free to call our offices during regular business hours or you can email us at any time.
